The great danger churches face in relating to the culture is becoming too much like the culture. In the process, culture-oriented churches become lukewarm, and God deals harshly with lukewarm churches.
At WHC we are determined to stay “hot“ – continually focused on obeying God’s Word, and on worshipping and praising Him passionately. We are a model for other like-minded churches and cannot afford to become lukewarm, moving closer to the spiritual “black hole“ that would suck us into a coldness and irrelevancy from which we would not return. Stay on fire for God!
EDUCATION
Revelation 3:14-22
“To the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write:
“The Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says these things: I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or hot.
So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of My mouth. For you say, ’I am rich, and have stored up goods, and have need of nothing,‘ yet do not realize that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire, that you may be rich, and white garments, that you may be dressed, that the shame of your nakedness may not appear, and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
“Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be zealous and repent. Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.
“To him who overcomes will I grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (MEV, emphasis added).
John 3:1-21
“There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to Him, ‘Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.’
“Jesus answered him, ‘Truly, truly I say to you, unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’
“Nicodemus said to Him, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?’
“Jesus answered, ‘Truly, truly I say to you, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, “You must be born again.“ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.’
“Nicodemus said to Him, ‘How can this be?’
Jesus answered him, ‘Are you the teacher of Israel, but you do not know these things? Truly, truly I say to you, We speak of what We know and bear witness of what We have seen, but you do not receive Our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven except He who descended from heaven, even the Son of Man who is in heaven. Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but may have eternal life.
“‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned. But he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the verdict, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that it may be revealed that his deeds have been done in God’” (MEV).
APPLICATION
- The church at Laodicea, which the apostle John saw in his revelation, was lukewarm – neither cold nor hot.
- A hot church is typified by signs, wonders and miracles. A cold church can become hot. But a lukewarm church is, figuratively, drifting toward the event horizon – a part of space close to a black hole.
- And at that point, absent a move away from the black hole it will be sucked into darkness, and essentially become useless.
- WHC is in a season of passionate praise and worship and unrelenting obedience to God’s Word. We are committed to being a “hot“ church for the church’s own sake, for the sake of individual church members and for the sake of the multiplied thousands of churches which look to WHC as an example.
- The anointing is simply Holy Ghost possession. It’s time to get possessed!
IMPARTATION
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for strategically placing me in a house of worship that is focused on Your Word and what You are doing in our community and around the world! Give me more of Your anointing. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so I can be salt and light in my circles of influence.
Order my steps so that I may reflect the passion You have for Your people. Keep me from ever being lukewarm for Your purposes and Your Kingdom. Make me hot and a conductor of heat in Your world, so that more men, women and children may be added to Your Kingdom through me.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ – Jehovah Joshua Messiah – I pray. Amen!
