Mankind’s nature is to fear. God’s message in the death and resurrection of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, is “Fear not!” The choice to be transformed through faith in Jesus leads to a divine assurance that you need never fear anything again. God sent His Son to the cross so you would spend eternity with Him. The choice to be assured of Heaven and avoid hell is possible because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. It’s that simple, and that important!
EDUCATION
Matthew 28:1–10
“At the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
“And then there was a great earthquake. For the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his garments white as snow. The soldiers shook for fear of him and became like dead men.
“The angel said to the women, ’Do not be afraid. For I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. For He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead, and indeed, He is going before you to Galilee. There you will see Him. Listen, I have told you.’
“So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word. As they went to tell His disciples, suddenly Jesus met them, saying, ‘Greetings!’ They came and took hold of His feet and worshipped Him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go tell My brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me’” (MEV).
APPLICATION
- There were many ways to kill a criminal in Jesus’s time. The purpose of the cross was to instill fear. It was a public, humiliating means of death - just what the Romans intended.
- Jesus experienced fear in the Garden of Gethsemane, but it was not the fear of dying. He was afraid He would not make it to the cross, because He knew God’s plan for the redemption of His Church hinged upon His death there.
- Like the thief who asked Jesus to remember him that first Good Friday, we want Him to remember us. And He has assured us that He will return for us. He’ll be back!
- You will live forever. But there are only two possible destinations: Heaven and hell. We in the Church don’t spend enough time warning others about how horrific hell is. It’s a place of eternal torment and separation from God. Choose Heaven today; exchange your life for that of the resurrected Savior!
IMPARTATION
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the Resurrection! You are risen, and I choose to acknowledge that marvelous fact every day, not just on Easter. Order my steps that I would tell everyone I know that You are still risen and that because You live, they can live also!
Cause me to live as I should in the knowledge of Your love and Your freedom in the days and weeks ahead. Make me Your voice in my circles of influence, so the people I love the most may also come to a saving knowledge of Your son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ – Jehovah Joshua Messiah – I pray. Amen!
