Baptism demonstrates the core of the Gospel’s message - it includes a death, a burial and a resurrection. Nothing magic happens when a person is baptized. It’s an outward demonstration of an inward transformation. But your baptism is important, because it’s your first “sermon“ as a new Christian - a declaration that you have been washed clean of your sins and confidently beginning a new life as a son or daughter of God the Father.
EDUCATION
Matthew 28:16-20
“Then the eleven disciples went away to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw Him, they worshipped Him. But some doubted.
“Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ’All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (MEV).
Romans 6:1-7
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may increase? God forbid! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Do you not know that we who were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
“For if we have been united with Him in the likeness of His death, so shall we also be united with Him in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with Him, so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we should no longer be slaves to sin. For the one who has died is freed from sin” (MEV).
APPLICATION
- Baptism marks your new life in Christ. But it is not the end of the story!
- Remember that what God is about to do in you will always be greater than what He has done in you.
- Your baptism needs to be a springboard to greater things that God will do through you.
- Your baptism is an integral part of your testimony. It is your first Gospel message to the people you influence. It shows the death and burial of your old life, and a resurrection into a new life. It is how you show others about Jesus’s death, burial and resurrection.
- If you’ve been baptized, walk in the newness of your life with Christ and leave in the water those parts of your life that have died and shouldn’t be resurrected.
IMPARTATION
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the sacrament of baptism, which shows to me and the world that, just as Jesus died, was buried and then was resurrected to live a victorious life beyond the grave, that You have helped me to die to sin and be resurrected to an eternal future with You.
Order my steps in the days and weeks ahead, that You would give me the opportunity to preach my Gospel message in my circles of influence. I don’t need a pulpit because You have given me a voice! Give me opportunities to share Your love with others, so I may honor You and what You have done for me.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ – Jehovah Joshua Messiah – I pray. Amen!
