God purposes reconciliation between opposing sides — what an incredible reality to bring to
bear on our racially divided culture! Our nation does not have a skin issue; it has a sin issue.
What Christians can bring to the discussion is unconditional forgiveness and extravagant love.
We love because God first loved us, and He commands us to be reconciled to others. Now more
than ever, it's time for us to be about our Father's business.
EDUCATION
Acts 13:1
“In the church that was in Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was
called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch,
and Saul” (MEV).
APPLICATION
- The news media have trained us to engage in conflict rather than reconciliation.
They show people of different races treating each other badly. If they came to World
Harvest Church they'd see images of men and women of different races loving each other.
- Winston Churchill said if we open a battle between the present and the past,
we will never get to our future. To erase one's history is to erase one's knowledge
of the purpose in the past. Shall we relive the past or shall we, like the Jewish people
in remembrance of the Holocaust, say, “We will never forget!”
- Multiracial churches like World Harvest Church are uniquely positioned to bring
peace to a land where racial tension has come to the forefront of our collective consciousness.
We have the opportunity to demonstrate that love is mightier than hate, and that forgiveness
is one of the most powerful forces on the planet.
- Love is a decision — it has nothing to do with our feelings. Forgiveness is for now
— it doesn't take time to accomplish.
- Let us be voices of reconciliation — voices of the Gospel.
IMPARTATION
Heavenly Father,
My heart is grieved over the state of race relations in this nation. I repent of my sin of not
loving others as fully as I ought, for holding back my acceptance from others, for not forgiving
even before forgiveness is requested. Conform me to the image of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ,
who had the right to demand to be served but instead lived a life that revolved around serving others.
Thank You for placing me in a community that looks like You would have all of the Church become,
with races and backgrounds working together in harmony for the sake of each other and for Your Kingdom.
Continue to order my steps so that I may contribute to this community as You would desire me to.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ — Jehovah Joshua Messiah — I pray.
Amen!
