Memorial Day honors the men and women who gave their lives to defend American interests
as part of our fighting forces, and their families. In the Church, we recognize
the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the propitiation of our sins, and the privilege
of battling the forces of darkness around us as His ambassadors. May we never forget
the importance or privilege of sacrifice!
EDUCATION
John 15:9–17
“As the Father loved Me, I also loved you. Remain in My love. If you keep
My commandments, you will remain in My love, even as I have kept My Father's
commandments and remain in His love. I have spoken these things to you, that My
joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment: that
you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this: that
a man lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I
command you. I no longer call you servants, for a servant does not know what his
master does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I have heard from
My Father have I made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and
appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain,
that the Father may give you whatever you ask Him in My name. This I command you:
that you love one another” (MEV).
APPLICATION
- The American soldier is a modern—day type of Jesus Christ — choosing
to take an oath to sacrifice for others, even if that sacrifice leads to the soldier's
death.
- Being a soldier is not easy, but it is worth it.
- Honoring those who serve us isn't a conservative values or a liberal value —
it's an American value. Don't let your worldview be swayed to the point
that you don’t honor police officers, firefighters and other first responders, as
well as our men and women in the armed forces.
Because of the sacrifice Jesus made at Calvary, each of us can decide to make it
a memorial — the day your chains were broken, when light filled your darkness,
when you passed from spiritual death to spiritual life and became more alive than
you've ever been on this earth!
IMPARTATION
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ, to Calvary to pay for my
sins before I was even born. Thank You for the model of that sacrifice, which we
honored this past Memorial Day weekend. Thank You for raising up men and women to
defend this great nation from our foreign and domestic adversaries.
Order my steps that I may be Your soldier in the battle for the hearts and minds
of people in the world today. It is a privilege to be one of Your soldiers! I ask
that You would find me faithful to carry out all that You have set before me.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ — Jehovah Joshua Messiah — I pray.
Amen!
