You Clothe Me with Strength
For You clothed me with strength for the battle; You subdued under me those who rose up against me.
– Psalm 18:39
King David’s son, Absalom, betrayed him. As David fled for his life, he cried
out, “LORD, how my foes have multiplied! Many rise up against me! Many are
saying about my life, ‘There is no help for him in God’” (Psalm 3:1-2). In
verse 3 David continues, proclaiming, “But you, O LORD, are a shield for me,
my glory and the One who raises up my head.” In verse 7 David implores God,
crying out, “Arise O LORD; save me, O my God!”
David knew his help and strength would come from God alone. David was not a
perfect man, but he remained faithful to the Lord God of Israel, and God
considered David to be a man who was after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts
13:22).
Whether you have experienced heartbreaking betrayal from a family member,
coworker, neighbor or someone you thought was a friend, God will strengthen
you, restore you and lift you from the depths of your despair. Trust God in
all things.
Holy Spirit, strengthen me in the midst of conflict. Help me to see You
clearly in the heat of battle.
