Pentecost
Three times you are to celebrate a festival to me...Three times a year all the men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord.
- Exodus 23:14,17
Do you know the significance of Pentecost? Pentecost was the turning point in
world history. It occurred on the 50th day after the Jewish Passover, which
marked Israel’s physical emancipation from Egyptian slavery and the end of the
harvest season.
It was the fulfillment of God’s plan and the beginning of a new age—the age of
grace. It was the establishment of the Church of Christ and it was the
fulfillment of God’s Word.
What really happened on that day?
The Holy Spirit came to fulfill the mission of salvation (John 14:16-17, 26;
15:26). The disciples were baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire as John the
Baptist prophesied in Luke 3:16.
They experienced a supernatural enabling. The Holy Spirit imparted spiritual
fruits to each of them. They were filled with a spirit of boldness and a
strong undeniable love for God.
As you celebrate Pentecost, rejoice in all that God has provided for you—power,
authority, boldness and grace.
Expect great and mighty things from God...for that is the blessing that
Pentecost brings.
