The Liar and Deceiver
The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
- Revelation 12:9
Deceit is one of Satan’s favorite weapons. He tried to deceive Peter during
Jesus’ trial. Satan caused Peter to be afraid for his own life and proclaim “I
don’t know the man!” (Matthew 26:69-75). Satan stirred up doubt in Peter’s
heart.
Satan attacks with lies and deceit. He plays on your fears. If the devil can
sell you one lie, he will sell you a thousand. Peter calls him the “adversary”
and he admonished the Church to be watchful: “Be self-controlled and alert.
Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to
devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
Peter told us to be sober and to “watch out” with a calm and collected spirit,
remaining steadfast in Christ, knowing the devil is a prowler and will attack
us when we are at our weakest.
On our own, we can never defeat the devil—but Christ already has. When we trust
in Him and hold to His Word, the enemy cannot harm us! Be aware of the devil’s
strategy of deceit, and trust God to keep you on the right path.
